Accommodation details
INSIDE THE HUT
- Sleeps 2.
- Dogs welcome, but floor space is limited.
- Complimentary tea, coffee and milk upon arrival.
- NO smoking/vaping please.
- Fully insulated construction throughout, for a warm and pleasant night's sleep, no matter what the weather may be like outside at any time of the year.
- Double glazed UPVC windows & stable door. Providing key security, warmth, natural light and draft-free accommodation.
- NO gas or electric hob are provided for cooking as our clients like the simple quirkiness that a shepherd hut provides. They generally find that having breakfast/brunch out at local beach and town cafes appeals more nowadays.
- Cold water supply tap sink ONLY* and grey/waste water system. *(Kettle for heating ALL water for hot drinks & to aid with washing-up).
- Log burner & optional hot air room heating.
- Kitchenette with washing-up facilities, kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge with small freezer compartment, eco cleaning materials and all cutlery, etc.
- Complimentary eco hand wash at sink.
- 3.1amp USB recharging points and 13amp sockets, along with LED lighting throughout & 2 x rechargeable reading/table lamps.
- 3 x sturdy access steps, with handrail.
- Bed linen & towels provided. (Excluding BEACH towels).
- Local information / event leaflet selection provided.
- Fire extinguisher, fire blanket, first aid kit, carbon dioxide & smoke detectors are provided within the hut.
- Electrical supply/system fully compliant, tested annually and fitted with circuit breakers, as well as eco/low energy equipment items provided throughout!
OUTSIDE THE HUT
- A small hardwood table and two garden chairs are stowed beneath the double bed inside the hut, for use outside the rear end of the hut, or on the raised garden area accessed via granite steps adjacent.
- A fixed, stout wooden bench is found on the raised garden area, which gives rewarding sea views beyond Portloe over Veryan Bay to Dodman Point, officially "the highest headland on the south Cornwall coast"!
- Please keep your dog/s on a lead/s, pick up after your dog whilst in our garden/wild flower areas and dispose of poo bags responsibly. (We have 2 x elderly friendly Lurchers, with whom you & your dog/s will need to share our property).
- Very quiet countryside position, providing very simple, but cosy accommodation....with no fuss, so as to enable you to get away from the modern world!
- Private shared vehicular access driveway, off-street parking for one vehicle on-site and automatic night time illumination to/from the shepherd hut.
- Ideal for those wishing to walk, cycle or use as a base for touring the Roseland Peninsula, or day trips out to the rest of Cornwall by car, or other forms of transport.
SEPARATE PRIVATE SHOWER ROOM
- Only a short level walk from our shepherd's hut, with night time automatic illumination along the gravel path, to the rear of our cottage.
- Electrical supply/fan/lighting systems fully compliant & tested annually.
- LED energy efficient lighting.
- Fully double glazed UPVC exterior door, with key security lock and privacy blind.
- Heated towel rail for the colder months.
- Dual flush toilet, linked to our septic tank sewerage/grey water system. (N.B. Please use the sanitary bin & bags provided and do NOT flush anything other than toilet paper down the toilet).
- Wash Basin with hot & cold mixer tap & complimentary locally sourced hand wash adjacent.
- Towels provided. (Excluding BEACH towels).
LOCAL AMENITIES
- Sited within our regional A.O.N.B. - Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
- The Roseland Peninsula is surrounded by notable "Go Stargazing" sites and is very much a dark sky area, suitable for all those interested in this relaxing pursuit!
- National Trust houses & gardens abound locally, with Trelissick being the nearest and a must to visit.
- English Heritage sites are to be found locally too, with St. Mawes and Pendennis Castles
- The Lost Gardens of Heligan are within 1/2 hr by car from here.
- The Eden Project is within 3/4hr by car from here.
- Public footpath (P.R.O.W./ Path ref. no. 51) runs across our land & enables you to walk to the local coastline, beaches, surrounding villages, etc. without encountering virtually any vehicles.
- Inter-connecting footpaths enable you to get to the world famous SWCP (South West Coastal Path*) within 15mins approx. of leaving our shepherd hut, as its only 3/4mile distant by foot! *We are a registered "Way Maker" for providing local accommodation for walkers/ visitors within 1 mile of the SWCP, with www.southwestcoastpath.org.uk
- Portloe (1/4hr walk approx.) is our local picturesque coastal/fishing village, with small harbour, The Ship public house and seasonal food/craft sales in its centre for local charities.
- Veryan (1/4hr walk approx.) is our local charming village, with its Round Houses, beautiful church, Post Office/Village store, village Hall with seasonal events, sports/social club complex and The New Inn public house.
- "Roseland Local" fuel, garage facilities & general store complex at Bessy Beneath (approx. 10 mins. distant by car).
- Tregony has a convenience store and The Kings Arms public house (approx. 20mins. distant by car).
- Breakfast/brunch can easily be found on offer locally at the Da Bara Bakery premises at Ruan High Lanes and/or St. Mawes.
- Lots of eating out establishments & quaint Inns can be found at both Porscatho, Gerrans & St. Mawes.
- Beach cafes (open during spring/summer seasons only, generally) are at Pendower, Porthcurnick & Towan.
- Our nearest beaches are at Carne, Pendower, Porthcurnick, Portscatho and East & West Portholland.
GETTING HERE
- TRAIN:- The nearest two railway stations to us are at St. Austell & Truro.
- AIR:- Our nearest airport is Newquay in North Cornwall, which is under an hour away by car.
- BUS:- From St. Austell and/or from Truro to Tregony ..and then connect to travel via a local smaller bus to the Trewartha bus stop & disembark. Please refer to ON FOOT access notes (below) once you have walked down the lane to Trewartha hamlet.
- TAXI:- Carlton Cars* are very efficient and are based at Probus midway between St. Austell and Truro, so are local to the Roseland Peninsular area. *(07732)362353-Paul.
- CAR/MOTORCYCLE/BICYCLE:- From A30 via A3058, B3275, A390, A3078 turning off left eventually at the Roseland Local service station towards Veryan, then turning left towards Trewartha (just before entering Veryan itself) and then finally turning left opposite "Jago Cottage" which will be on your right.....We (Well COTTAGE & the Shepherd's Hut) are up the shared & gated gravel driveway behind the first property on the left, which is Well HOUSE.
- ON FOOT:- From the main lane running West to East (AT Trewartha hamlet), go north via the wooden pedestrian gate next to the 5-bar gated shared gravel drive at Well HOUSE along the public footpath which follows the gravel drive, through the far wooden pedestrian gate, by the double garage & greenhouse on the right and you are here!...The shepherd's hut is in front of you, accessed through a private signed gateway on the nearest corner of Well COTTAGE.
